TEA PARTY 2012/2013
It has been a year of great strides towards our heritage goals. On May 20th, we had our third annual restoration celebration at the “White” Church. Once again, despite cold and damp weather, we had a good turnout to see our progress, enjoy “Curly’s Old Fashioned Hot Dogs”, participate in a silent auction and bake sale and enjoy the spirited entertainment provided by Peter Probst and His Merry Men (son Jordan and Brent Cooper). We raised several thousand dollars. It is our success in local fund raising that was instrumental in garnering another Trillium Foundation Community Grant. This allowed us to complete the gallery strengthening, put in new platforms, finish interior work and replace the old vestibule. All just in time for September 7th and … THE FIRST WEDDING IN OVER 30 YEARS and a culmination of our dream to bring this 1837 important heritage gem back to life. What a thrilling day it was ! Over 80 friends and family came for the union of Samantha Collins and Colin McCleave of Brampton. Over a dozen of Colin’s close family came all the way from Belfast. A beautiful “heritage echo” as the church was built by early settlers from the old country. To hear the building reverberating to the sound of bagpipes was indeed a “goose bump” moment. A major Toronto Star article generated considerable business – so much to that many enquiries were fielded about availability for the future. And have you noticed what a beautiful job is being done restoring the 1903 stone wall by the Town of Caledon. During the summer, the BHS hosted a free heritage walk for 20 local school children. The Brampton Historical Society is booking a walk for next year. RESTORATION CELEBRATION 2001
