Belfountain’s Bicentennial
Celebrated 200 Years
on Saturday, October 4, 2025
To celebrate 200 years of the village of Belfountain, the Belfountain Heritage Society, led by President Sarah Bohan, came together with countless community residents and volunteers to create a truly memorable celebration of the village’s history and heritage.
The day was filled with activities for the whole community, beginning with a spectacular parade featuring the Sandhill Pipes & Drums Band, the 2nd York Militia & Canadian Volunteers of 1812 Re-enactment Company, horses, vintage cars, Erin Air Cadets, and more.
A heritage art show and display was hosted at the Community Hall. Today, this display has evolved into The Olde Forge Gallery.
A central moment of the celebration was the unveiling of a commemorative sculpture in the village square, created by local artist Wendy Mitchell. The unveiling was accompanied by addresses from Town of Caledon dignitaries, announced by Town Crier Andrew Welch, including Mayor Annette Groves, Regional Councillor Christina Early, Ward 1 Councillor Lynn Kiernan, former Councillor Ian Sinclair, and others.
It was a day filled with history, community spirit, emotion, and pride — a fitting celebration of 200 years of Belfountain and of the people who have helped make this village such a special place.
The success of the celebration was made possible by the tremendous efforts of the Belfountain Heritage Society, community residents, volunteers, artists, performers, participants, local organizations, and everyone who contributed their time, talents, and enthusiasm. Together, they created a wonderful day that honoured Belfountain’s past while celebrating the strength and spirit of its community today.
Throughout the day, visitors and residents enjoyed live music, a vendors’ market, horse-drawn carriage rides, a community scavenger hunt, and residents dressed in historical garb, bringing Belfountain’s history to life.
Musical performances included MAXIMUM 60s, Golden Country Classics Band, and Melyssa Kerr.
The celebrations also included an 1812 Battle Re-enactment, Mini-Militia activities for children, and a musket demonstration.
